Semuto Green Valley Agribusiness & Tourism Incubation Center Ltd. (Semuto Green Valley ATIC / SGV-ATIC / Semuto-GV) is a Ugandan agribusiness and tourism business incubator. It is one of the success stories to have arisen out of the transformational business development strategies of the Presidential Farm located at Kaumu A in Makulubita sub-county, Luwero District. Semuto Green Valley ATIC uniquely combines innovative business development processes, infrastructure and people, to nurture and grow new and small businesses by supporting them through the uncertain early stages of development.
About
Why Choose Us?
Amplifying the YOUTH dividend
The median age among Uganda’s 49 million people is 16.7 years against a global value of 30.3. This means that half of the country’s population (nearly 25 million Ugandans) are aged 16 years or below. Of more economic significance however, is the population of nearly 9 million Ugandans aged 9 to 20 years of age. Most of these young people are enrolled in upper-primary school (P5-P7), ordinary level secondary school (S1-S4) and advanced level secondary school (S5-S6). This enormous organized pool of potentially economically active individuals has been largely ignored and labelled “the leaders of tomorrow.” Semuto Green Valley ATIC argues that reaping from the “youth dividend” implies structured programming of in-school productivity schemes to harness this resource pool rather than waiting for an abstract magic socio-economic demographic called “population age-structure transition” / “demographic transition” at a higher median. In partnership with school communities, Semuto Green Valley ATIC is designing and implementing in-school handiwork productivity and marketing programming named Study and Work in order to accelerate and amplifying the benefits from Uganda’s burgeoning youth population.
Improving sustainable RESOURCE UTILIZATION
Semuto Green Valley ATIC is supporting economic transformation within Uganda, one sub-county at a time. Semuto Green Valley ATIC teams are working with the conviction that there are potentially enough local resources for all communities in Uganda to sustain decent livelihoods devoid of poverty, hunger and homelessness. We believe that most of the resources for production are lying fallow, raw and random. Therefore Semuto Green Valley ATIC is partnering with other private and public development institutions, universities and research centers, to advocate for and support development of strategies, mechanisms, techniques, and infrastructure for transformational sustainable economic development and resilient national and regional food system. Our development strategies are shared through training and demonstration under Business Incubation-themed programming.

Taking action against POVERTY
Semuto Green Valley ATIC identifies two forms of poverty: one is hereditary and preventable, while the other is aspirational and can be mitigated. Semuto Green Valley ATIC Community Incubation and Innovation Centers (CIICs) run coaching and mentorship programs that contribute to prevention of poverty by scouting and quickly identifying for support every outstanding startup. The goal of CIICs is to contribute to the reduction of inequality at the earliest possible stage and break the cycle of socio-economic disadvantage, educational underachievement, and overlooked merit. Semuto Green Valley ATIC also spearheads community-level association of subscribing societies (CLASS) rooms. CLASS-rooms act as village-based partnership that mitigate poverty through paid work, skills improvement, and achievement of non-school certification of qualifications under the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) of Uganda.
Improving sustainable RESOURCE UTILIZATION
Smallholder subsistence farmers are by far the single most important category of food producers in Uganda. Most of these producers are women and girls. Semuto Green Valley ATIC has developed training tools to support improvement of on-farm production practices, post-harvest handling, value addition, quality improvement and minimization of food loss and food waste. Semuto Green Valley ATIC also carries out advocacy and call-to-action campaigns through the Uganda Organic movement, to drive policies that encourage youths and young people to innovate within the food system, in areas such as value-addition to improve shelf life, compliance with national and international standards, certification, and trade and marketing of safe and nutritious food.
